Livelihood Development Grants Management Project (LDGMP)

Livelihood Development Grants Management Project (LDGMP)

Trinamul Unnayan Sangstha (TUS) implemented the Livelihood Development Grants Management Project (LDGMP) under the Chittagong Hill Tracts Watershed Co-management Activity (CHTWCA), supported by UNDP and funded by USAID, from April 1, 2017 to August 30, 2017. The project was implemented in Khagrachari Sadar and Panchari upazilas of Khagrachari Hill District, aiming to improve livelihoods and reduce vulnerability among forest-dependent communities.

The project focused on several key components. Under Grants to Support Access to Water, TUS conducted engineering feasibility studies, selected suitable communities for water facilities, and formed Water Facility Management Committees. It also implemented water schemes, organized PDC (Para Development Committee) meetings, and carried out regular monitoring and reporting.

Through the Contingency Fund Management component, TUS developed rules and guidelines for emergency support, conducted post-disaster surveys, and facilitated emergency response and assistance for VCF (Village Common Forest) communities and affected households. Seasonal assessments and monitoring ensured that responses were timely and appropriate.

The VCF Development Grant component supported livelihood volunteers, organized monthly and bi-monthly meetings, and facilitated the review and implementation of VCF development plans. Monitoring and follow-up visits were conducted jointly by TUS and VCF management committees to ensure accountability and progress.

Under Grants for Vulnerable Households (HHs), the project helped select appropriate income-generating activities (IGAs), form livelihood subgroups, and conduct skill development training for selected farmers and subgroups. Livelihood development grants were provided to these households, followed by systematic monitoring and reporting.

The Grant for General Households component involved the selection of beneficiaries, review of proposals, and development of guidelines for fund utilization. Grants were used for IGA development and, in exceptional cases, for emergency needs such as medical treatment or education. Final endorsement, fund disbursement, and close monitoring ensured effective use of resources.

Overall, LDGMP contributed to enhancing income opportunities, improving local resource management, and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable and forest-dependent households within the Mong Circle areas.
