Second Chittagong Hill Tracts Rural Development Project (CHTRDP-II)


Trinamul Unnayan Sangstha (TUS) implemented the Community Infrastructure (CI) component in joint venture under the Second Chittagong Hill Tracts Rural Development Project (CHTRDP-II, ADB Loan 2763 BAN) from December 2013 to June 2019, covering 38 unions in 9 Upazilas of Khagrachari Hill District.

The key activities included community selection, planning, participatory resource mapping, village profiling, problem identification, consultation meetings, feasibility studies, and the formation of various community committees such as Para Development Committee (PDC), Community Development Committee (CDC), Watershed Committee (CWC), Procurement Evaluation Committee (PEC), and O&M orientations.

The project also implemented technical training, construction work (village footpaths, small feeder roads, stairs), tree plantation, and watershed management activities to strengthen rural infrastructure and improve living conditions.

Project Purpose

The purpose of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Rural Development Project – Community Development Component (CHTRDP-II) was to improve the quality of life for residents in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) region by:

  • Developing community infrastructure to enhance connectivity and access to essential services.
  • Ensuring reliable access to water resources for daily needs and agricultural productivity. 
  • Promoting sustainable land and water management through participatory watershed initiatives.
  • Empowering local communities by building their capacity to manage and sustain development activities independently.

Overall, the project supported sustainable development, reduced poverty, and fostered long-term resilience within CHT communities.
