Sofol (Success): Integrated Support for the Lifelong Success of Orphaned Children in Bangladesh

The Sofol (Success) project, implemented by Trinamul Unnayan Sangstha (TUS) with support from United Purpose and Penny Appeal, aims to create an enabling environment where orphaned children enjoy their rights and dignity through community-led sustainable support. The project focuses on building and strengthening families’ and communities’ capacities to ensure that orphaned children have equal access to basic services, education, and protection from abuse, violence, exploitation, and discrimination.
It integrates four key components:
- Quality Education for orphaned children,
- Financial Security for guardians,
- Health & Wellbeing through WASH and nutrition, and
- Social Protection through linkage with service providers.
Major Activities:
- Educational and Financial Support for Orphaned Children: Provided education-related financial support to 770 orphaned children and distributed micro-grants among 200 guardians to support school expenses.
- Infrastructure and Learning Resources: Installed sanitary latrines in 58 learning centers, distributed on-net/off-net learning materials, established 182 Village Resource Centers, and mobilized 182 Adolescent and Youth Clubs.
- Community and Volunteer Training: Trained 20 community volunteers at learning centers, provided honorarium to 58 volunteers, and conducted capacity development sessions for guardians of orphaned children.
- Annual Competitions and Engagement Activities: Organized children’s competitions in 58 learning centers and union-level contests engaging parents, guardians, and local committees.
- Youth and Adolescent Support Initiatives: Held planning meetings for Adolescent Forum Committees, conducted behavior change programs on WASH and nutrition, and supported income-generating activities for youth.
- Health and Hygiene Programs: Distributed hygiene materials to 18 schools, introduced Little Doctor schemes, provided Child Wellbeing Kits to 113 families, and promoted household-level nutrition.
- Social Protection and Community Engagement: Linked families with Local Government Institutions, held public hearings on Union Parishad services, and raised awareness on child rights and entitlements.
- Government and Local Authority Collaboration: Organized workshops with union and upazila leaders, supported action plans for vulnerable children, and connected families with Financial Service Providers.
